Need I Say More about this Dissident Filly?
When buying a filly at the yearling sales there is always something to keep in mind and that is pedigree updates. Not only does it ensure more confidence heading to the track but it also means what you bought yesterday is worth more tomorrow. A progressive family coupled with ability on the course and prize money isn’t the only way owner’s can make a return on their horse.
Mornington-based horseman Robbie Kingston purchased a Dissident filly out of winning Fastnet Rock mare Bo Bardi for $60,000 there was already enough meat in the pedigree to suggest a career in the breeding barn would beacon later on in life.
Then the two-year-old could run. Need I Say More (No Nay Never) was unbeaten as a two-year-old and won the Group 3 Waikato Stud Slipper in New Zealand where he is raced. Those words again, progressive family.
Leading New Zealand based jockey Opie Bosson said in a recent interview that Need I Say More is his horse to follow for the current season which is a massive endorsement for the horse that he is only going to build on what he has already done.
“I was delighted to secure this filly solely on her type as she really caught my eye but it is always an added bonus when something from the mare comes out and proves themselves after the purchase,” Robbie Kingston said.
“There is also the fact that she is a filly and she certainly looks like a racehorse and has come off a good farm so if you pair up the family with racetrack performance then there is plenty of residual value there.
“She has excellent strength and is an excellent size and looks to have a good mix of Dissident in with Fastnet Rock and she has really taken to the stable life through the breaking in period.”
There are still some limited opportunities to get involved in this filly and she is very well priced as well at around $7,000 for 10% or $3,500 for 5% but she has been selling fast.
“This filly looks to have it all in front of her and she has a real presence about her,” added Todd Blum.
“It is some excellent buying by Robbie to secure this filly for $60k and then have the two-year-old win a Group 3 after the purchase because if it happened before you would be paying a lot more than that that’s for sure.
“It just goes to show that these good judges can find a horse on type and if you have a lovely horse then the rest will generally follow.”
This fillies dam was a winning mare and she is out of an American Listed winning mare who is by Medaglia d’Oro.
“There is plenty to like about this filly including her page and she really is a classy filly that I can’t wait to get to the races. She is a real queen,” Kingston said.
