Nelsons Arch First Winner For Danesis
Nelsons Arch became the first winner for Brooker Park resident stallion Danesis when successful in the first race at Werribee on Monday in the Better Solar Maiden Highweight Plate over 2000m.
The Charlotte Littlefield trained three-year-old was bred by John Pratt at Brooker Park who got a great thrill from the win.
"We have been waiting for this but it is magnificent to experience the thrill of his first win," said Pratt.
"To get this stallion after his career in Hong Kong and upgrade a section of our dairy farm to dedicate to breeding horses and to get his first winner is very pleasing."
It was Nelsons Arch's fourth trip to the races and the step up to the 2000m really suited the gelding today after some lead up runs when building in distance.
Martin Kelly who was on board for the race said the horse "was was a little bit keen and we broke the gates and I was a little bit worried coming around the corner I sort of got stuck three deep but I slotted in behind the one who I thought was the bait."
"I just let him take me into the race and I just hit the line strong.
"I had a look inside and there was nothing there and he was kinda inclined to lean in that way a bit and I let his head go and he kinda did that himself and he just found a bit more than the second horse."
Nelsons Arch is out of the Archway mare Cindy’s Arch who has a two-year-old unnamed filly also by Danesis to come and is in foal to Danesis again.
